Our Crew

Thank you, from all of us on Kaua'i.

Happy Sailing.

Who We Are

For 15 years the Kaua'i Sea Scouts have taught the youth of Kaua`i all about ships. Seamanship, Leadership. Friendship. Citizenship. As the only Sea Scouts in all of Hawai'i, the program has given boys and girls experiences and memories to carry through their lives. Several Scouts who have aged out of the program have gone on to maritime careers, but all Sea Scouts share the experience of actively loving the ocean.

The Sea Scout Ship Decisive, a 40-foot trawler, has been our boat since 2009.  As the Sea Scouts explore the Hawai'ian Islands, summers and school holidays have become cruising days. From short three-day cruises to our longest cruise of 24 days, our scouts get to go places their friends and classmates only dream about. However, as the program now has over 30 scouts, we have outgrown our beloved boat.  Currently, the Decisive can only accommodate 14 persons including scouts and adult leaders so that long cruises now must be broken up into two trips to get all the scouts out on the ocean. With an aging boat and a growing program, to quote the movie Jaws, "it is time to find a bigger boat."

Our program funds itself through donations and car washes. However, a major fundraising campaign is needed to raise funds to buy a boat we found on Oahu.  The E Sea Rider will berth 30 people and fit into our 65-foot slip at Nawiliwili Harbor on Kaua'i. With the philosophy that Sea Scouts is for everyone, no youth have been turned away.
